The first step in the application process for Returning Student Sign-Up opens on February 17th – Some of the most commonly asked questions are below.
Q: Can students stay in their same room?
A: Yes. Residents can re-select (squat) their current rooms as long as it is in the same area you submit an application for and it is not reserved for special housing in 2014-2015. This year, apartments 13-24 in Oak in North Lake Village are reserved for the Wellness community. If you currently live in Palmetto, Biscayne, Everglades or anywhere in Osprey other than floors 6, 5 & 4 (poolside) in South Village, you will have to select a new room. Students who want to live in the Wellness community need to come to the Central Housing Office from March 24th-28th to select a space.
Q: How much is the application fee?
A: Students currently living on campus do not have to pay an application fee as long as they go online between February 17th and 26th to update their applications. After February 26th, a $50 application fee will apply.
Q: What information do I need to apply?
A: You will need your UIN and PIN to log into the Housing Portal via Gulfline. You also need to know whether you’re applying for West Lake Village or North Lake Village/Osprey. If you plan on pulling in roommates during the specified time period, you will need their screen names and UINs in order to complete the process.
Q: Can I submit an application for West Lake Village and North Lake Village/South Village?
A: No, you need to select one of the two available agreements. If you are unable to get a space in West Lake Village, we will automatically transfer your application to North Lake Village/South Village so that you can select a space accordingly during that process. Please note that only current SoVi residents are eligible to select a SoVi room.
Q: What happens after I update my application online?
A: Pay attention to your Eagle email. You will receive a series of emails about the next step in the process, which is selecting a room online. The online room selection process for West Lake Village will occur between March 10th and 19th and the process for North Lake Village & Osprey will occur between March 24th and April 3rd.
Q: What happens if I apply for West Lake Village and don’t get a room there?
A: Depending on the number of applicants for West Lake Village, there is a chance that some students will not be able to select a room there. If that is the case, we will automatically transfer your application to North Lake Village/South Village so that you can select a room there. You may also ask to be placed on the WLV waiting list by emailing the Housing office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Can I live in South Village next year?
A: Maybe. We have opened a few areas in Osprey Hall. Only current SoVi residents are eligible to select a room in Osprey. The South Village options are Osprey Hall floors 6, 5 & 4 (poolside).
Q: How do I sign up for the Honors or Wellness Community?
A: Both of these communities are in North Lake Village, so you will need to apply for North Lake Village. If you would like to live in Honors housing, the room selection process is the same as regular rooms. If you would like to live in the Wellness Community, you will need to select your room in person in the main Hosing office March 24th-28th.
Q: Can I choose my roommates?
A: Yes. You can pull-in roommates as long as your prospective roommate(s) have applied for the same housing area. In addition, your prospective roommates will need to create screen names in the housing portal. They can do this by logging into the portal via Gulfline, clicking on Profile and then on Screen Name. You will need to know all of your prospective roommates’ UINs and screen names prior to pulling them in. You will also be able to search for compatible roommates using the RoomSync application on Facebook. Look for RoomSync instructions in your Eagle e-mail during the month of February.
Q: I’ve heard that West Lake Village and North Lake Village/South Village agreements have different terms. What’s the difference?
A: North Lake Village & South Village are standard agreements for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 terms.
West Lake Village agreements are for Fall 2014, Spring 2015 and Summer A&B 2015. Enrollment as an FGCU student will not be required in West Lake during Summer 2015. Also, graduation at the end of the Spring 2015 term is not an approved reason for cancellation of the Summer portion of the agreement. If you are applying for West Lake Village, you must give serious consideration to your financial and enrollment plans. While we will have a sub-lease option for the Summer terms ONLY, please keep in mind that you can only sub-lease to FGCU students, and those students must be approved by the Office of Housing and Residence Life prior to moving in. There is no guarantee that you will be able to find someone to sub-lease to.
Q: Do I have to take classes over the summer to live in West Lake Village?
A: No, you do not have to enroll in any summer classes to live in WLV, as long as you were registered for classes in Spring 2015. Seniors graduating in the spring are still allowed to live in WLV over the summer.
Q: Can I still apply for housing after the Returning Student Sign-Up process?
A: Yes. If you do not update your application online between February 17th and 2th, you may still apply for housing. You will be required to pay the $50 application fee and complete a paper application in the housing office. If the online room selection process is still happening, you will be able to select a room online. If the online process has ended, you will be assigned a room in June along with new applicants. So it is best to not forget to update your general agreement during the first step of returning student sign-up.
Q: What happens if I don’t select a room online before April 3?
A: Your application will be cancelled. If you still want housing, you can apply through the new student process.
Q: I changed my mind about living on campus. When is the deadline to cancel?
A: The deadline to cancel without reason or penalty is April 11 at 11: 59pm. After that, the Terms and Conditions will apply. Please note that there are very specific reasons that are considered approved cancellation conditions, so it is best to solidify your 2014-2015 housing plans by April 11th.
