Have questions about your North Lake Village mail? These answers to commonly asked questions should help you out!
How should my mail be addressed?
All mail, packages, and special deliveries for NLV residents must be addressed as follows:
1000 FGCU Campus Housing, Apt. _____
Fort Myers, FL
What if I don’t address it like that?
You may not receive your mail if it is not addressed properly. If information is missing on a piece of mail or a package, we will look it up in our database and attempt to correct it. Mail addressed incorrectly may be delayed and sometimes it won’t even reach FGCU if the zip code is incorrect, if it’s addressed to the wrong address or name, or if it’s missing information.
How do I pick up my mail?
At check-in, you were issued a mailbox key that opens the mailbox you share with your roommates. Your mailbox is in the Commons. You and your roommates should discuss whether you want “snail mail” delivered to you to be taken out of the box by one of them or left in for you to pick up yourself.
How do I pick up my packages?
Residents must have a valid photo ID (Eagle ID, driver’s license, passport) to pick up a package. The package number and type of package (envelope or package) will be sent to your Eagle email account from the EaglePost system. It wouldn’t hurt to tell the front desk whether it is an envelope or a package and the Package Number sent to you in that email, but the front desk can find your package without that information. The ONLY thing you need is your valid photo ID.
When can I expect my mail to be ready for me to pick up?
Most mail is delivered throughout the business day from 9am – 4pm. The NLV mail clerks and front desk staff work to have all mail processed and ready for pick-up by 5pm, Monday through Friday. If you have a package, you will be notified by our EaglePost system with an email sent to your student account. “Snail mail” will be processed by 5pm daily, volume permitting.
What mail services can I get at the Commons, at FGCU, or in the area?
We process incoming and pre-paid (USPS, FedEx, UPS) outgoing packages and “snail mail” for our residents and staff.
- Stamps are sold by the book in the FGCU Bookstore (by the book only), at Publix on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, and at the US Post Office on Three Oaks.
- Envelopes can be purchased at the FGCU Bookstore (individually or by the package), or Staples in Gulf Coast Town Center.
- Faxes can be sent or received from the FGCU Bookstore, FGCU Library, or Staples in Gulf Coast Town Center.
- There is a Pay-to-Print printer in Eagles’ Landing and at the FGCU Library.
How long can I wait to pick up my package once I get a notification email?
Please don’t delay! Based on the volume of packages in our mail room, we will keep a package here for two weeks before it may be returned to sender. Perishable packages will only stay for three days (for health reasons) before being discarded.
Can my parents/best friend/grandma send cash through the mail?
Yes, but we can’t be responsible for any problems with cash being sent in any kind of mail. It’s just a bad idea. If they do so, have them send it through a tracked mail.
What should I do if I need something sent to me that is very important?
First, make sure you use the correct address format. Second, use a method that provides a tracking number, such as UPS, FedEx, USPS Express Mail or Certified, etc. All such packages can not only be tracked by the carrier’s website, but we log their tracking number internally and collect your signature when you pick up the package at the front desk.
What if I paid for USPS overnight shipping and it’s not here yet?
Please note that mail is delivered to NLV on business days only, and all USPS mail first goes through a central receiving plant on main campus. If you are told that a package should arrive overnight or in three days, please note on our end that time is measured in business days (which does not include weekends, holidays, or University closings), and all mail goes through another campus entity before it gets to the Commons, and then to you.
What if my mom or dad ordered something for me in their name and sent it to me?
If you know a package is addressed incorrectly by name, you must let the program assistant know or risk your mail being returned to sender.
