Now that applications for housing for 2012-2013 are open, many people have asked questions about the application process. To help you complete your application, we have some answers to frequently asked questions for you.
Q: Can I apply if I haven’t been admitted to FGCU yet?
A: Yes! Students may apply after submitting an application to FGCU, even if they haven’t been accepted yet. You will still need your University ID number, assigned by Admissions, to complete the application. Students that have not been accepted must complete a paper application, while admitted students may apply online or by paper.
Q: When should I apply for housing?
A: Students should submit their applications as soon as possible. The earlier you get your application in, the better your chances are for getting your specified housing preferences. Housing applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis.
Q: Should I wait to apply if I’m not sure I will be attending FGCU?
A: We encourage you to apply as soon as possible after you have applied to FGCU, even if you aren’t sure where you will attend school in the fall. Assignments for housing are first come, first serve so waiting could impact your assignment preferences. If you apply and later choose to attend a different school, you may cancel your application in writing until assignments are made in June.
Q: Can I pick my roommate(s)?
A: You may request your roommate(s) on your application. Only mutual roommate requests will be granted, so make sure to have all your preferred roommate(s) request to live with you as well. You will need to know their university ID number to request them on your application. If you would like to request a roommate after submitting your application, you may email our office at firstname.lastname@example.org or update your application in the housing portal. There is no guarantee for roommate requests since assignments depend on available space.
Q: How do I know which application to submit?
A: If you are applying for either South Village or North Lake Village, you will submit this application. If you are applying for West Lake Village, you will submit this application. Freshmen are encouraged to apply for South Village, a community reserved exclusively for freshmen and designed to help students with the transition to college. Any resident may apply for North Lake Village. Only students classified as sophomores or above may apply to West Lake Village.
Q: Can I apply for more than one housing area?
A:You may only submit one application, either for West Lake Village or for North Lake Village/South Village. Remember that only freshmen may apply for South Village and only students classified as sophomores and above may apply for West Lake Village.
Q: How long are the agreements for on-campus housing?
A: It depends on which area you are living in. South Village and North Lake Village agreements are for the Fall and Spring semesters only. West Lake Village agreements are for Fall, Spring and Summer. Students in South Village or North Lake Village may apply for Summer 2013 housing separately later in the year.
Q: When will I find out my housing assignment and roommate(s)?
A: Assignments are sent to new residents in June. Returning residents will have an opportunity to select their room in the Spring.
Q: When do returning residents apply for housing?
A: Returning student sign-up begins in the Spring semester. Returning students should not submit the housing agreement currently available online. Information on the returning student sign-up will be emailed to current residents early in the Spring semester.
