We would also like to welcome Melissa (Mel) Rizzuto, our new Instructional Designer III, to the department.
Melissa Rizzuto is our newest Instructional Designer at FGCU. She was most recently the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center for Florida SouthWestern State College. She has been teaching online courses at various institutions for over ten years as an adjunct instructor, including Introduction to Public Speaking at FSW, Multimedia Instructional Design at Drexel University, and Distance Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida. She received her bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and Mass Media from Temple University and her master’s degree in Communications from Florida State University. She earned her doctorate in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology from the University of Florida.
Melissa has over fifteen years of experience in the field of instructional design and training, beginning with an internship that introduced her to the field early in her career. She has worked in corporate training departments for Comcast Spotlight and Vanguard and as an instructional designer at Drexel University and Florida SouthWestern State College. Melissa was a lead member of the learning management system (LMS) selection team at FSW when Canvas was selected and implemented by the institution in 2011. FSW was the first school in Florida to adopt Canvas and Instructure’s tenth customer! She has enjoyed watching Canvas evolve during the past eight years. Melissa was previously on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Florida chapter of the Association for Talent Development (ATD) and enjoys working with the organization to stay current and connected to other learning and development experts. She is also a certified MBTI® Practitioner and True Colors Facilitator.
