While always encouraged, this year we are requiring students to come to the Career & Internship Fair in professional attire. Why? Employers have urged us to make this change. They see professional dress as an indicator of your professionalism, your respect for the opportunities they offer, and your sincerity about meeting employers. Whether you are a first-year student looking for internships or a senior looking for a full-time professional position, professional dress is expected.
What does that mean? What should you wear? For women, dress pants or skirt with a collared blouse and a jacket is best. Women may also choose to wear a blouse with ruffles or plain sweater under the jacket; however, tight sweaters, sheer or low-cut blouses are NOT acceptable. For men, it’s best to wear a grey, navy or black suit with a collared, button-up shirt and tie. If you do not own a suit and can’t borrow one, you may choose dress slacks and a collared shirt and tie without a jacket. Women may choose dress slacks with a blouse and no jacket. Wearing a jacket will make you look more professional, though, so consider purchasing one from a thrift store or borrowing one (if it fits).
